28. November 2023Te Amo Beach – A beach you’ll love
If you’re looking for a simple but beautiful beach with easy accessibility and crystal clear waters, Te Amo Beach on Bonaire is a place you’ll want to stay longer than you planned. Its name means “I love you”, and once you spend a while here, you’ll understand why. Half a day on this beach turned into a day and a half, so if we had been on Bonaire longer, we would have stayed here for at least three days 🥰.

Not just white sand
Te Amo Beach is one of the most beautiful public beaches on Bonaire, yet it maintains a quiet and non-commercial atmosphere. The parking lot is right above the beach and is never even half full. As soon as you step onto the white sand, you are overwhelmed by the beauty of the place. No wind, no waves – just a beautiful beach, a few trees providing natural shade and a minimum of people.

But beauty also awaits in the sea. As usual, you’ll find coral reefs rich in underwater life. Unlike 1000 Steps Beach, there are plenty of curious fish waiting for you to observe as they go about their daily lives.

The underwater kingdom of Te Amo Beach
One of the biggest advantages of Te Amo Beach is the fantastic snorkeling right off the shore. Just swim a few metres out to sea and you’ll find yourself in a fascinating underwater kingdom, where fish of all shapes and colours move among the coral.

The water is completely clear, not at all murky like off the coast of Klein Bonaire, and you can see several dozen metres ahead of you. As a result, you don’t have to be a diver to enjoy the beauty of this diver’s paradise – the island of Bonaire.

Fish of different sizes and shapes swim around you. They are curious and they don’t let themselves be disturbed at all.

Here, too, you will find a large precipice where the deep sea already begins. This is an intriguing colour transition that contrasts perfectly with the soft white below you and the colourful fish around you.

Beware of corals
However, you have to be careful because you will often be swimming right over the coral. Luckily, there are no currents like at other snorkeling sites, so you just need to choose the right route.
Whilst the corals at Te Amo Beach are home to a large number of fish, unfortunately, the coral reef is also gradually dying. They are no longer as beautiful and colourful as on Klein Bonaire, but there are more fish and they often stay in large schools.

Be sure to wear water shoes in the water. Although the sea is shallow and you’ll mostly reach the bottom, you’ll find dead coral bits that are quite sharp. If you’re careful, you can avoid them, but you should definitely consider footwear if you want to fully commit to exploring the beauty.
Food truck with delicious snacks
Although you won’t find any restaurants or stalls on the beach, the Kite City food truck is regularly parked here, offering fresh seafood and tasty sandwiches. If you want to enjoy lunch right on the beach, be sure to come here for grilled fish or the famous tuna burgers, which have earned a great reputation among visitors to the island. However, they also had the traditional grilled chicken.
If you fancy a coffee, the airport is about 5 minutes walk away, where you will find a café with cakes. We definitely made a coffee run 😊.

You have to bring everything to the beach
Also, the deserted nature of the beach is probably since there are no amenities. You won’t find sun loungers or umbrellas here. Apart from the food truck, you have nowhere to buy food or drink. The nearest options are only at the airport. It is only a 5-minute walk from the beach, but you have to get dressed.

Even on other beaches, we did not encounter more people, but here we were surprised, because the beach was very similar to the beaches on the neighboring islands of Curaçao and Aruba, with one exception – the underwater life. It is definitely richer here.
