The best beaches of Crete

8. September 2022Apotripiti Beach - the peaceful bay of the north
Apotripiti Beach is a small unorganised cove 2 km from the popular resort of Sidari. This place is distinguished by the sandstone rocks in the sea near the beach, which complete the beauty of the scenery. These rocks are located just a short distance from the shore, allowing you to swim, climb, and enjoy the coastline's view.
Ideal not only for families with children
This beach is ideal not only for families with children. There is fine brown sand, which is perfect for building sandcastles. The calm surface and the gradual descent of the seabed ensure safe swimming for children. Adults can also enjoy jumping off the sandstone formations or swimming to the more distant rocks.
The first formation is not very far and you can walk more than half the way along the seabed. Only later the water starts to get deeper and so even weaker swimmers can get here. If you go here, you will see the bay in all its glory and also the surrounding reefs that make up the beach. For those who love lounging, the good news is that the rock is quite comfortable so you can sit or lie down and enjoy the views. For the more adventurous natures, there is a more remote rock from which it is great to jump into the sea.
Availability and facilities
Apotripiti Beach is not very popular as it is only accessible by car, making it an ideal destination for those who prefer less crowded beaches. There are no sun loungers or a bar, so you need to bring plenty of water and food.
Access to the beach is easy, as there are only a few steps leading from the car park. And as soon as you park, you have a view of all the splendour. Apotripiti Beach looks as if it was created by a landslide, so when you lie on the sand, it will be like a collapsed cliff behind you.
A short walk away, you can also visit the famous Canal d' amour, Cape Drastis or another beautiful beach, Arillas.
