Grote Knip – Beach like a postcard

Grote Knip is exactly the kind of beach you imagine when you hear the words “Caribbean paradise”. Even when we arrived at the small parking lot above the beach, we were left standing with our camera in hand because the view from the cliff overlooking the turquoise bay is just perfect. The emerald lagoon, lined with white sand and dramatic cliffs, looked like something out of a catalogue. Sunlight reflected off the surface, creating colours that seemed almost surreal. For us, definitely one of the most beautiful beaches we’ve visited.

Grote Knip Beach is perfect

Unlike commercial beaches, where life is vibrant, here we found almost empty sunbeds, few visitors and silence, which we would not expect on such a beautiful beach. Even during high season, there were only a few people here. There are no resorts or big hotels around the beach, so the place keeps its natural form.

You will be accompanied by a few tourists and a few curious fish swimming around you. Delicate white sand and calm sea create ideal conditions for all ages. Whether you like to swim or just enjoy the sunshine on the shore, the beach will live up to your expectations.

Piglets on Grote Knip Beach

While reading a book on a sun lounger, I was interrupted by Martin, who was trying to get my attention. He did well because an unexpected visitor arrived on the beach. We knew that on some beaches of Curaçao you can meet piglets, but here we didn’t expect them.

It came right up to us and curiously sniffed our hands. Then it headed towards the sea, and I immediately took advantage of it and followed it. We picked up some leftovers from the food we had with us and fed the pig a little. As a reward, we got some time together on the shore, where it happily played along with us.

When it was fed, it went straight into the sea, where it lay down and let the waves wash over it. I love pets of any kind, and this new friend won me over immediately with his affection, smile and joyfulness that radiated from him.

Water that calls for a swim

Looking at the sea is irresistible. Only fine sand forms the entrance to the water. From light blue to dark blue, the colours of the sea change, creating a wonderful contrast with the white sand under the water.

If you like snorkelling, we recommend exploring the rocky reefs at the edges of the beach where colourful fish gather. Unlike other places on Curaçao, you won’t find extensive coral reefs here. Nevertheless, you should take your goggles and explore the bottom. The water is absolutely clear.

Fully equipped and easily accessible

Grote Knip Beach is fully organised. There are sun loungers, parasols, toilets and a restaurant. Surprisingly, the prices for meals are also quite affordable and you can have a tasty lunch for €15.

One big advantage of Grote Knip is the free parking right next to the beach. It’s big enough so finding a spot is not a problem even on weekends.

On the way up to the parking lot, don’t miss the bench hidden among the trees. You will have a wonderful view of the whole beach.
