Konnos beach – experience of a lifetime
24. September 2024Kokomo Beach – Swing over the Caribbean
Kokomo Beach is one of the beaches you will instantly fall in love with. This small but beautiful cove surrounded by rocky cliffs offers turquoise water, fine sand and the legendary swing right above the sea. In fact, this swing became the symbol of the beach and one of the most photographed spots in Curaçao. Another plus is the minimum number of visitors, even though the beach is fully organised.

Beach ideal for doing nothing
Upon arrival at the car parking area, stairs lead down to the beach, where you can enjoy views of the perfectly clear water and the palm-lined bar, which gives the place a pleasant Caribbean atmosphere. Kokomo Beach isn’t as busy as some other beaches, but you’ll still enjoy a nice mix of relaxation and fun. Your entertainment will be provided by the local cats, who will stare sadly at you every time you eat. They’re little rascals. 😊

The biggest attraction is, of course, the swing over the sea, which is a must-stop for every visitor. Although it is located just a short distance from the shore, the way to it is not easy. Don’t try to go over the shore – there are rocks lurking there, against which the waves are breaking. After a couple of attempts, even I realised that this wasn’t the best idea.

It is much easier to walk along the pier and down the stairs into the water. You’ll find yourself in shoulder-deep water, where there are fewer rocks, and you’re only a few steps away from the swing. Don’t worry, there are no queues waiting for you. Since the beach is so sparsely visited, you can enjoy the swing for an hour without being disturbed.

Underwater world
Thanks to the rocks and surrounding reefs, the beach is also ideal for snorkelling. During our short expedition on the seabed, we encountered several fish, but since we visited Kokomo Beach on our last day, we didn’t feel like snorkelling anymore. I preferred to lie out on the sun lounger and finally finish my book. Martin took a good nap and enjoyed the atmosphere of the place.

How to get to Kokomo Beach?
Kokomo Beach is located on the west coast of the island, approximately 15 minutes’ drive from the capital Willemstad. Access is easy – the road is well signposted and leads through beautiful countryside. Parking is free and right next to the beach. If you don’t fancy the beach, a short distance away you’ll find the beautiful beaches of Cas Abao and Playa Porto Mari.
Beach is fully organized
On the beach you will find comfortable sun loungers and parasols, a restaurant with delicious food and drinks, a bar with refreshing cocktails, toilets, showers and a diving centre. Sunbeds cost €3 per day to rent, and there’s no extra charge beyond that. Entrance is free.
The bar had excellent coffee and drinks. However, we did not try the food.
