The most beautiful beaches of Cyprus
29. September 2024Makronissos Beach: tranquillity and relaxation
Makronissos Beach lies a short walk from the famous Nissi Beach, near Ayia Napa. The beach offers fine white sand, turquoise sea, warm water and everything you need for a day of doing nothing. Like Nissi Beach, Makronissos has two faces – the morning one and the afternoon one.
In the morning, the beach is relatively empty, so you can enjoy its beauty to the fullest. Children can throw a ball in the shallow water, swim or just relax in the sea.

It gets crowded in the afternoon, which makes it almost impossible to fool around in the water with the kids unless you want to risk accidentally hitting someone. Also, as the beach gets pretty full, all of the umbrellas are occupied.
Beauty of Makronissos Beach
You will find the beach charming, with pleasantly warm, crystal clear and long shallow water. It is ideal for families with children. A few rocks scattered in the sea require your attention not to trip over them, but it is these rocks that contribute to the picturesque appearance of the beach, especially from a bird’s eye view. In our opinion, this beach is better for parasailing than Nissi Beach.

To the left of the beach area is less occupied, but there are more rocks in the sea. For one, you have to be more careful when walking, but on the other hand, this part is more interesting for children who want to snorkel. Also, if you want to play with a ball, here you will be less likely to hit someone.

Fully organised beach
Makronissos Beach offers everything you need on the beach. Sun loungers and parasols can be rented for €7.5. Prices at the bar are slightly higher, but you can buy a frappé or a snack. Watersports on offer are very varied – from pedalos to crazysofa, water-skiing to paddleboarding.
Around noon, however, you will start to feel the onslaught of tourists, especially in the central part. If we were looking for an escape to a less busy beach, a 10-minute walk will take you to Landa Beach. Here you will also find quite a lot of people, but much less than on Makronissos.

How to get here?
If you arrive by car, there is a large paid parking lot, but you’ll also find plenty of free parking spots, which is where we stayed. If you arrive before 10:00, you’ll catch a spot in the free parking lot as well. If you choose to take the bus, from Ayia Napa you take the 101 or 102 line towards WaterWorld Waterpark and after about 5-7 minutes you get off directly at Makronissos Beach.
