To the north of Paphos, you will discover the unique Sea Caves, which will amaze you with dramatic limestone cliffs and crystal clear water. These natural caves, created by centuries of erosion, are where sea and rock meet in breathtaking shapes. Not far from the Sea Caves, you will find the shipwreck of the EDRO III, which adds even more magic to the place.
Sea Caves – how to get here?
Your way to the caves leads to the Sea Caves Parking, where you can park your car. If you’re travelling by bus, line 615 will take you to Coral Bay, and from there it’s a 20-30 minute walk, or you can take a taxi.
The beauty of the coast
As soon as you approach the sea, your eyes are immediately struck by dozens of caves of different sizes and shapes.
The paths take you to several viewpoints where you can enjoy panoramic views of the entire coastline. From some parts of the cliffs, adrenaline-loving daredevils can jump straight into the sea. We preferred to stay up and enjoy the setting sun.
You can walk around the coast for about 200meters. At the second outcrop, there is a lone bench just waiting for you to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere.
There are warnings everywhere that the terrain is unstable, so you shouldn’t get too close to the edge. However, few people have abided by this. The kids didn’t want to move and would most like to spend a few hours here watching the sun as it slowly headed towards the sea surface.
Shipwreck of EDRO III
This cargo ferry was stranded here during a storm in 2011 and has since become an iconic landmark of the coastline. As you approach the wreck, you’ll see the ship lying tilted towards the shore, its steel structure looming dramatically against the azure sky.
A rope is attached to the bow of the wreck and a few brave souls went on board to explore the ship from the inside and then enjoyed jumping into the depths of the sea.
If you come here at sunset, you will not regret it. You can choose several places with or without a wreck.
At this point, the kids and us split up. They sat down by the sea on the rocks and we went to the beach where we could best observe the wreck. The kids had a direct view of the sun gradually disappearing over the horizon.
Martin and I were enjoying the reflected rays that coloured not only the sky but also the boat.
The boat is nice, but I wouldn’t go here during the day. In the evening, the place has its own special atmosphere and we are very glad that we were here just for the sunset. And we weren’t the only ones. People gradually came to enjoy the celestial spectacle as well.
If you are in the Coral Beach area, you should definitely come and enjoy the atmosphere of this place. It’s worth it.
