25. September 2024Canal d’Amour - Canal of the eternal love
The Canal d'Amour, translated as "Canal of Love," is a unique formation of sandstone cliffs and sea caves eroded by the sea over millennia. The name comes from a local legend which claims that couples who swim the narrow channel together will be blessed with eternal love and happiness.
It is right next to Sidari Beach and can be reached by a short walk. The sea tempts you to jump in and swim through the channel, but not everywhere is suitable for entering and exiting the water. You'll need to find your spot. And count on crossing people taking their stuff off at the easy entry points.
The coastline is dotted with small, magical caves that offer the perfect natural oasis of cool shade. Sandstone cliffs surround you, inviting you to walk on them and discover the incredible shapes they reveal with every step. The Canal d'Amour is often regarded as one of the most romantic spots on the island of Corfu or even in Europe.
Most of the visitors were couples, children were at a minimum, perhaps because of the poor access to the water. Definitely not a good place to visit with small children. Even our bigger ones had a problem where to go in the water. Bigger kids can go crazy jumping in the water and snorkeling here as well as adults, but they have to be swimmers already.
You can park at Sidari beach, there are plenty of free spaces, ideally in the western part. After that, it's just a short walk, depending on the part of the beach where you parked.
Canal d'Amour is not for the whole day. It's a perfect stop for 1-2 hours if you're on Sidari beach, or other nearby beaches like Apotripiti beach.
